I was surprised at how quickly I was drawn into and enthralled by Nicola’s story. The various registers and writing styles used throughout the book made it all the more interesting. From diary extracts, spiritual experiences to the research that went into Gorah, the people and the surrounding areas, all of these culminated into a fantastic read - a journey I felt a part of.
Thank you for allowing us to share your experiences with you Nicola. I look forward to reading more of your incredible life stories.

When I was a little boy, my grandfather would tell me stories of riding on horseback to events held at the gorah house, a mere 1hour ride to go dance the night away with single ladies from surrounding areas, a uninterrupted journey except for the odd buffalo en route, Gorah has been a part of my family for generations and it's stories and memories are so well captured in this book, and we are forever grateful that Nicola has taken the time and put in so much energy to capture it all. Not just gorah, but addo and surrounds aswell, very comprehensive and an excellent read!

Thank you

Thank you for capturing the soul of Gorah, Addo, the Elephants and yourself. No matter where I am, I will always have a way to revisit the place I called home for what felt like an era. Don't ever stop chasing your dreams!

The most well researched book on the history of Addo Elephant Park and area!

This is the first book that I have come across that shares the full history of the Addo area and of Addo Elephant National Park, as well as a ranger's personal journey in this beautiful area. Nicola shares her own personal journey of her time at Gorah Elephant Camp (in Addo Elephant Park), in which she describes many of her encounters with the elephants that few ever get to experience. Her photographs are beautiful and show the "magic", as well as the lesser known gems of this area. Some of Nicola's stories about her experiences will give you goosebumps and other may make you cry, but whatever your reaction will be so moved by what you read in this phenomenal book. It is a collectors item for sure! Well done, Nicola.

A review by Denise Kerr

This is not just another coffee table book with photos of wildlife. That has been done before, many times.
By all means, treat it as such, but then know that you will have lost out on a beautiful, honestly told tale of life, and all that we can learn and gain from it.
This is a book of photos of wildlife, but written from the soul. This book provides an opportunity to rethink what life is, and what our role therein is.
This wonderful book should inspire all who read it, and pass on its message, to treat all four legged animals with the respect and dignity they deserve, and to learn from them. They are selfless teachers, always on duty and never asking for pay increases.
Thank you Nicola for your honesty and your writing from the heart. Your photos are awesome and most definitely not run of the mill views. Your story tells a story, as stories are meant to do. Mostly, your story tells us that Elephants are more than just tusks, and should most definitely be protected.

Can honestly say that this is the most awesome book in my fairly vast collection of tomes within my beloved 'Africa' collection. Very clearly an extensive labour of love by the author who has imparted so much more into her book than I have witnessed anywhere else. It is not just a book; it is so much more. The chapter on her spiritual experiences with elephants is staggering. a very humble author, yet gives/shares so much of herself in this work. A limited edition, but deserves to be in every home of everybody that loves Africa, Addo, elephants,,,life....
